New Endings?

Remarkably, it's been nearly half a year since Jamie and I, along with 99% of the Durham graduate population, moved to Clapham to embark on yet another year spent under the same roof. When I first got here in October, I was filled with a sense of excitement about what was to come. Indeed, our 6 months South of the river have been filled with thrills and new experiences, but not the ones I was expecting.

Upon arrival, I had it all planned out. Get myself a fulfilling, highly paid grad job (should be easy enough, right?) and spend the year meeting new people (in pubs), discovering new places (ie. pubs) and generally launching myself into my mid twenties in the greatest city in the world. Naturally, this did not materialise. As the weeks passed me by, so did the job offers, and the country was plunged into not one but two national lockdowns.

And so, it became increasingly necessary to find something useful with which to fill my time. Music has always been an enormous part of my life, and I had already been studying sound engineering at London Music School in Hackney on a part-time basis to add some structure to my days. Covid put paid to that, as it did to everything else, but the encouragement of the amazing people I met there and the total absence of anything else to do eventually led me that wise, age-old conclusion "...fuck it". So into the studio we went.

Fast forward 3 months...we've released our debut single, embarked on the world's most budget promotional campaign (consisting of a piece of cardboard, a QR code and a hairless man shamelessly pestering strangers on Clapham Common) and our next track is on its way. On the anniversary of that first lockdown, I'm reflecting on what a strange and difficult time it's been for everyone. However, under circumstances I couldn't have anticipated, I'm excited about where this one is heading. I hope you all are too!
